We recommend you use a fast USB Flashdrive of 1GB+, (You can get a iPalm 8GB USB 2.0 Mini Hard Drive for as little as $ 25.00 @ Geek.com). We like the 8GB because it has plenty of spare space for additional applications. We will show you how to customize the USB with your own choice of applications.

Next we want to open the Synaptic Package Manager and activate some extra repositories
Once in the Synaptic Package Manager -> Click [ Settings ] -> Click [ Repositories ] ->
Mark the following Repositories
- < http://ftp. heanet.ie.....>
- <http://gtlib.gatech.edu .....>
- < http://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za.....>
- <ftp://klid.dk.....>
when done Click [ OK ] -> Click [ Reload ]. We have to add some repositories, since all of them are not complete or do not offer all the apps we want.
You can always add more if needed. Remember to disable all of them if you want to use 'Make Remaster', this saves room!
For this example we have chosen to add OpenOffice.org, because it make sense to have office suite available on our USB. Search for OpenOffice.org and mark it for installation (Search and Install all the one you think you will need), Click [ Apply ] when done.
Now we are going to make our customized PCLinuxOS 2008 for the USB Drive. To do this -> Start -> System -> Make Remaster.
Follow instructions. When it asks for "would you like to provide some advanced options? ", select [ Yes ]. Leave first options as is
We do not want to install a guest account -> so we type "--nodir=^ /home/guest" -> [ OK ] |
Next we type the name we want -> here we chose "myUSBversion.iso" and want to save it to the Desktop |
It's making the customized iso file
Remaster is done. You can see it on the Dektop |
This step is optional - Here we want to check if our USB drive is formated correctly. Start -> System -> Configuration -> Hardware -> HardDrake -> Hard Disk sda (left panel) -> Run Config Tool (bottom right panel) |
Select the sda tab -> Select the partition -> Toggle to expert mode (bottom button), you should see something similar, important is that the type is FAT16, the others values might vary depending on the capacity of the USB drive. Make sure a volume label is assigned to the partition, in our case "minime", if not click on [ Label ] enter a name -> [ OK ] |
Start -> System -> Make LiveUSB. Just follow the instructions
Go watch a movie! When it is done -> [ OK ] -> unplug the USB. Test it and enjoy!
